The animated maps below are intended to give the viewer a generalized idea of the movements of the regiment during specific time periods but are approximate and do not necessarily represent exact historic movements.  However, the animated movements by boat, rail, or the march are based on the websmith's research of the regimental history from published or unpublished letters and diaries of the soldiers of the regiment.

Animation of Fortress Monroe, VA voyage October 29, 1861 with fleet of 45 Union ships to Port Royal, SC to bombard Hilton Head on November 7, 1861.  Roundheads voyage on the "Ocean Queen" thus began their South Carolina campaign completed shortly after the "Battle of Secessionville" on June 16, 1862.
